Getting Your Kids Excited About Camping

We live in a society that seems like it is constantly in a "hurry up and wait" mentality. There is always so much to do that it can be slightly intimidating to think about a camping trip and a few days away from our hectic lives. Children are especially hard to impress with as simplistic as camping. They would much rather be home watching TV, playing video games or chatting on the internet. So, how can you get them excited about a family camping trip? Following these tips is a good place to start.

You will want to make sure that the location you choose to camp at will guarantee some sort of adventure. A good example is somewhere that will offer the opportunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat or maybe along a lake so you can go fishing. Kids want action, R&R is simply not on their agenda.

You could also include them in the process of planning the trip. Show them a few places you are interested in going and take them to websites where they can find more information. Making them a part of the decision process will help them feel like this is their vacation too, as opposed to simply being dragged along.

Have them decide what types of games or activities you will do while camping. If they want to take a Frisbee, let them, if they want to take lawn darts, let them. They may even be excited by the prospect of setting up their very own scavenger hunt. Let them know that there are far more things to do out in nature than they could ever imagine.
